 Ramazi Mitaishvili was born on July 27, 1960 in Sukhumi, Georgia in family of famous physicians Shota Mitaishvili and Raisa Narcia. He graduated from the Medical School of Tbilisi in 1986 and entered a 12-month internship at Sukhumi Children Hospital, which he completed September 1st, 1987 and receiving his Doctor – Pediatrician degree in same year. Upon discharge from internship in September 1987, he hoped to pursue a career in otorhynolaryngology. There were no openings in the otorhynolaryngology residency program and he started work as a local pediatrician. In1999 he was offered a position as an anesthesiologist in ICU Department in Sukhumi Children Hospital. This was the start of his anesthesia career. After completing 2- month advanced training for Anesthesiologists in Leningrad State Medical School, and 2- year program in Sukhumi University of Medical Progress and Advanced Technology, he was appointed the chairman of the anesthesia department at the prestigious Children Hospital in Sukhumi. Under his direction the practice of anesthesia at that hospital changed dramatically. When he arrived all anesthesia services were provided by Specialists from another Hospitals. He trained physicians in the specialty of anesthesiology and within a short period physicians provided all major anesthesia services at his hospital. In 1991-1992 Dr. Ramazi with other enthusiasts established post-anesthesia care and intensive care units in Sukhumi Children Hospital. In 1992 he served in the Children Hospital during the Russian invasion in Abkhazia. Survived bombing and shooting Dr. Ramazi Mitaishvili left when his homeland completely occupied by international terrorists. Between 1993 and 1997 Dr. Ramazi was appointed the director of anesthesiology department and medical technology consultant in Interprom Service Inc. in Moscow (Russia). He devoted himself to clinical care and teaching with the same enthusiasm that he brought to his research. In this period he started his career as a volunteer with Doctors without Border and International Red Cross to provide reconstructive surgery and anesthesia for children in developing countries. Between 1996 and 1997 he appointed the chairman of Eastern Department of Techprom Inc. in Geneva, Switzerland. He continued to travel the world using his teaching and clinical skills to help children in need. Many of residents have had the good fortune to accompany Dr. Ramazi Mitaishvili on these trips where they’ve learned to perform anesthesia under primitive conditions. He left Russia and brought his wife Gina and their 2 children in California in 1997.
