Two “Ask the White House” Online Events This Week

August 22, 2007

The White House will host two "Ask the White House" online events later this week. The topics will be pandemic influenza/avian influenza and the USNS Comfort humanitarian medical mission in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The first event will take place on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at 2:00 p.m., Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs, the Honorable Paula Dobriansky, will be online to discuss the North American Plan for Avian and Pandemic Influenza and U.S. international efforts with our neighbors in Canada and México to protect our citizens against the dual threats of highly pathogenic avian and pandemic influenza. Participants submit questions to Under Secretary Dobriansky prior to the online discussion.

The second event will take place on Friday, August 24, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. EDT. The Honorable Karen Hughes, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, will be online to discuss the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship that is in the middle of a four-month mission to provide health care in and around 12 ports in Latin America and the Caribbean, and which exemplifies the "diplomacy of deeds" that demonstrates the compassion of the American people. Participants can submit questions to Under Secretary Hughes prior to the online discussion.
